RAMdisk: fast, fast, fast!!!

RAMdisk is a form of “disk” which runs on RAM modules. The idea behind it is that RAM is a very fast memory module and a RAMdisk can boost the performance of a computer program (read/write time). The benefit is so big such that RAMdisks are x100 faster than SSDs and x200 faster than HDD. RAMdisk is a virtual drive created with the proper RAMdisk software. Another benefit is that there is no vibration or noise with RAMdisks. What is negative about RAMdisks is that they are volatile. This means that data are gone when power is off.

A RAMdisk software available in the market is the AMD Radeon RAMdisk (http://www.radeonramdisk.com/software_downloads.php).

Next, a little guide on how to make a RAMdisk through AMD Radeon RAMdisk follows:

-          This is the first windows appearing when you run the program. From here, you can set the size of the RAMdisk:

-          Install the proper driver:

-          The drive is detected and ready to run:

-          It is also visible in the “Computer” tab:

In Z: drive (RAMdisk) you can now install any program you like!
